da doce: Tottenham Hotspur go into their must-win Champions League tie with Inter Milan at Wembley on Wednesday on the back of a morale-boosting 3-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea at the weekend.
Spurs have only taken four points from their four European ties so far to leave them in danger of missing out on qualification for the knockout stages, and having lost 2-1 to Inter on the opening matchday they know that they need to beat them in north London to draw level with them on seven points ahead of their trip to the Camp Nou.
The Serie A outfit come into the pivotal fixture having won 10 of their previous 13 matches in all competitions, with their only defeats during that period coming away at Barcelona and Atalanta.
On The Chalkboard
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will already be thinking about how he can mastermind another important victory for his team, and he would be wise to take a closer look at how Atalanta recorded a comprehensive 4-1 victory against Inter earlier this month.
With first-choice right-back Sime Vrsaljko set to miss the tie at Wembley through injury, it means that Danilo D’Ambrosio is likely to start in that position.
The 30-year-old suffered a nightmare afternoon in the heavy Serie A defeat with at least two of the goals coming from his side, while the usually imperious Milan Skriniar was bullied by Duvon Zapata throughout.
Which team is the dominant force in London right now? Playmaker FC’s Tom Skinner has a very unpopular opinion on the matter. Check it out in the video below…
Who can make an impact for Tottenham?
Neither Erik Lamela nor Lucas Moura started the impressive 3-1 triumph over Chelsea, but they could hold the key to delivering three points for Spurs against Inter.
While Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min can cause problems from out wide, neither perhaps has the trickery and directness that their Argentine teammate can bring on the left flank, targeting one of the Italian giants’ weak links in D’Ambrosio.
Meanwhile, while Kane is obviously a world-class striker he perhaps doesn’t have the pace to cause Skriniar real problems, and Pochettino should consider starting Moura alongside the England international so he can use his speed and power to pressurise the centre-back.
