da betsul: Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has vowed to continue handing youngsters at Elland Road their chance to shine in the first-team, in comments made via Leeds Live.
What’s the word?
Marcelo Bielsa’s guidance has left Leeds flying high in the race for a return to the Premier League, which is something fans at Elland Road have been anxiously waiting for since relegation from the top-flight in 2004.
Despite their decline, Leeds have still provided a huge impact on English football as England internationals Fabian Delph, Lewis Cook and Danny Rose are amongst those to have been developed by the Yorkshire giants, although fans of the Yorkshire outfit have had to be fearful in recent years of losing their best academy graduates.
Meanwhile, academy-graduates Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Kalvin Phillips have been ever-present in Bielsa’s side this season and the Argentine boss has vowed to continue providing opportunities to young players, as quoted by Leeds Live.
What was said?
“(Jamie) Shackleton, (Tom) Pearce and (Jack) Clarke are youngsters that come from the U23s. Leeds has a tradition of forming players and I like to collaborate with the project of bringing young players to the first team. If you don’t watch the games of the youngsters, you can’t see how good they are.”
What does this mean?
Leeds fans should be extremely encouraged by Bielsa’s comments, as it shows the experienced boss is in touch with the club’s proud history and will not change their structure in the push to return to the Premier League.

Instead, talented assets will be given their chance to impress in the first-team and Bielsa has already given evidence of this by handing Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton and Ryan Edmondson opportunities in the Championship so far.
It means there is a long line of success at Leeds, who can point to the likes of Lewis Cook and Danny Rose who have gone on to represent England having begun their career at Elland Road, while Peacock-Farrell and Phillips show that age is no barrier to becoming a first-team regular.
The key will be retaining the signatures of the young players that impress but, with the club flying high and battling for a return to the Premier League, there is now no reason for younger players to jump ship.
