da apostaganha: Neither side may have managed to pick up all three points in what turned out to be a very entertaining showcase down on Merseyside tonight, but it is simply through matches such as this one that the English top-flight often gets credited as the best domestic league across the whole of Europe.
da luck: Both Liverpool and Arsenal eventually gave everything they had in attack, subsequently creating one of the most memorable matches of the entire 2015/16 campaign thus far. Although both Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp could justifiably complain about the state of each of their questionable back-lines tonight, genuine football fans were nonetheless met with a fantastic display of end-to-end football when all was said and done.
So then, in light of such an undoubtedly impressive match for both Gunners and Reds fans to enjoy this evening, here are three things we learned from Liverpool vs. Arsenal in tonight’s Premier League fixture…
Olivier Giroud could win Arsenal the title this season…
Although several Arsenal fans have often discredited Olivier Giroud on his rise to becoming the out-in-out first choice striker at the Emirates, surely those voices have now been left with little choice but to pipe down after tonight’s almost match-winning performance from the Frenchman.
The 29-year-old front-man has consistently provided Arsene Wenger with a promising goal-threat all season truth be told, and via his impressive hold-up ability, keen eye for goal in one-on-one situations, and overall technical link-up play with the rest of his Gunners teammates inside the final third – this is a player who could easily win Arsenal the league title come the end of the season.
The Liverpool back-line looked entirely short of confidence when tasked with holding off Olivier Giroud tonight, which shows just how much the once lambasted centre-forward has developed his game this term. Put in no uncertain terms whatsoever, Arsenal would simply look half as effective without the former Montpellier HSC man on board in 2015/16.
Simon Mignolet is just not good enough for Liverpool…
It may seem somewhat hard on the determined Belgian international himself, but after tonight’s less than convincing display from Simon Mignolet, Liverpool should arguably be looking to source themselves a brand new shot-stopper before the close of the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old ‘keeper looked completely void of confidence when defending his goal-mouth, his overall organisation from corners looked suspect to say the very least – and as both the opening Arsenal goals were in-fact conceded after questionable errors from the former Sunderland man – maybe it’s time Jurgen Klopp looked elsewhere in the goal-keeping department before the situation becomes truly untenable at Anfield.
Talk of Mignolet earning himself a brand new contract with the Reds could easily be cast aside after tonight’s match, and whilst the Merseyside faithful have issued their no.1 ‘keeper with enough support throughout his time at Liverpool, it seems the writing remains well and truly on the wall for Simon Mignolet at this particular stage in the proceedings.
Not all big Premier League matches have to be boring…
It was a cold, windy and partially snow-swept night on Merseyside tonight – but that simply didn’t stop both Liverpool and Arsenal from producing a fine display of Premier League entertainment for fans of the English game to enjoy in abundance.
The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have often turned big matches among the English top-flight into largely boring affairs with very little goal mouth action to behold – but as each of Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp set out sides to win tonight’s end-to-end fixture at Anfield – everyone who watched this match certainly came away satisfied at the end of the day.
It was a game that simply served to define everything we’ve come to love about the 2015/16 campaign thus far. It was very hard to predict from the get go, neither side looked completely convincing throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes, and both sets of fans, managers and players alike must have left the match fairly content with everything taken into account.
