da betsson: As Manchester City prepares themselves for a rather chaotic summer, the players are looking over their shoulders. Even manager Roberto Mancini doesn’t know if he is going to be at the club. If the Italian does stay it appears Craig Bellamy’s Manchester City future could be coming to a premature end.
Now Craig Bellamy has his detractors, which I can understand given his behaviour in the past. Coming from a Newcastle United fan I know how much of a handful he can be. Yet when he is in the mood and on form, Bellamy can terrorise the best defences in the Premier League. His performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford is sentiment to his obvious talents. Despite being one of Manchester City’s stand out performers this season, he appears likely to be thrown onto the rubbish heap.
When Robinho was crying like a baby because he can’t take cold temperatures Craig Bellamy was throwing his body on the line for Manchester City. Robinho may have the tricks and the flair, but he has not got the determination and work rate of Craig Bellamy. In the Premier League the Welshman is worth twice as much as the misfiring Brazilian. Now the 30 yr old is not getting any younger, he himself has declared he doesn’t think he has long left at the top. ‘I know there isn’t four or five years ahead of me with the injuries that I’ve had, maybe I’ve got one or two years at the most and it will be all over before I know it, so I’m just enjoying it.’ Bellamy told the Daily Express.
If money is no object to Manchester City, then why cash in on such a player who could still offer at least one more big season? Rumours of a mega bid for Argentina international Angel Di Maria seem to be gathering pace. Whilst I personally condone such a purchase, Bellamy should not be sold to make way for the Benfica star.
The reason behind any protracted sale appears to stem from Craig Bellamy and Roberto Mancini’s supposedly fractious relationship. Mancini this morning has insisted to the BBC that these rumours are false. ‘I continue to read that I have a problem with Craig Bellamy,” he said. This is false. I do not have any problems with him. If I did he wouldn’t play. I respect him. He works very well and always gives 100%.’
None of the other players appear to have any beef with Craig Bellamy. He is a passionate player and he makes mistakes. Yet the striker is an ultimate professional on the pitch. Bellamy works his socks off and expects others to do the same. If they don’t commit to his high standards then he gives them a mouthful. So he should. If Manchester City decide to throw him out it would be a mistake, probably the player of the season at Eastlands deserves a bit better.
As a Newcastle United fan I would have him back tomorrow, but that is not going to happen. Too many bridges have been burnt, should City relieve him of his duties he could do a job for anyone in the Premier League and I mean anyone.
