Celtic fans will be delighted to hear Ange Postecoglou say he is not thinking about leaving Parkhead but may have some underlying concerns over his long-term future.
What’s the latest on Postecoglou’s Celtic future?
There have been reports over the last few weeks suggesting the Australian could be on the radar of the Premier League side, Leeds United, following their sacking of Jesse Marsch.
However, as the Yorkshire club’s search for a manager goes on, there is the belief the 57-year-old will not be leaving Glasgow just yet.
And there have been some recent comments made by the Australian who did address the questions over his future by saying:
“If anyone thinks for the last seven days I’ve thought about anything but preparing the team to play today then obviously they haven’t got a clear idea of what I’m about.”
Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested this is something which will delight fans who may have had some concerns over him potentially losing the Australian in the weeks to come:
“I’m sure there’ll be a bit of trepidation with Celtic that Premier League clubs are sniffing around Ange Postecoglou. It’s not going to come as a massive surprise to Celtic, I don’t think.
“I think if you are successful, you are going to attract interest, and Postecoglou has said that he’s not thinking about leaving Celtic right now, he’s just concentrating on matters at hand at Celtic Park as well – which is what all Celtic fans want to hear right now.”
What could Postecoglou leaving mean for Celtic?
It certainly does seem as if the 57-year-old has been receiving interest from the Premier League with the likes of Leeds, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers all credited with an interest in the manager.
So it does appear there could potentially be opportunities available for the Australian if he is to consider leaving his post at Parkhead.
And there were certainly some comments in his recent interview surrounding his future which could potentially hint towards the notion of his future lying elsewhere:
“Every job I’ve done, I’ve done as if I’m going to be there forever. Every decision I ever make I’m making as if I’m going to be here forever – but I won’t be.”
However, there have also been some reports (via Daily Record) claiming Postecoglou could look to commit his future to the Scottish side by putting pen to paper on a new deal at Parkhead.
Currently, the long-term future of the Australian would seem to be hanging in the balance with his deal set to expire at the end of the season.
So it will be interesting to see how the next weeks and months pan out at Parkhead with Postecoglou having had such a positive impact since his arrival in 2021.
