But in Fantasy Premier League terms, what have we learned this past weekend? Here are five.
Aston Villa crushed again
Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa has condemned the rock bottom side to their seventh successive defeat, with the Villans failing to score a single goal in their last four games.
Any team that comes up against Villa are likely to get a victory, making their opponents worth investing in ahead of the final stretch of the season.
Manchester United players seem to be the best option right now, with the Red Devils hosting Villa during the GW 34 double before then facing Crystal Palace, also at Old Trafford.
Sanchez and Iwobi shine for Arsenal
It has been a long time coming, but Alexis Sanchez has finally re-found the form that saw him as Arsenal’s best player last term with a goal and an assist, while on the other wing a new star has emerged to share the attacking burden.
Alex Iwobi has scored his second goal in succession and almost had an assist to boot, but Sanchez’s initial header was saved before he put in the rebound. Iwobi also hit the bar in the second half, showcasing his drive to put the ball in the back of the net. And at just 4.5, if given the starts, the Nigeria international could be a brilliant differential and enabler ahead of the GW 34 double.
Man City missed KDB
Kevin de Bruyne returned to play his first game in over two months following a knee injury, and he proved his class and ability by calmly volleying Manchester City’s second goal of the night against Bournemouth.
His return will be a big boost for Manuel Pellegrini as they aim to keep in front of Manchester United in the race for fourth, as with the Belgium in the line-up, the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva look much more dangerous ahead of next weekend’s clash against West Bromwich Albion and the GW 34 double with Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Payet’s amazing consistency
It looks as if Dimtri Payet may well take the signing of the season accolade, scoring another brilliant free kick against Crystal Palace to make it three goals and four assists in his last six games.
Payet was the most transferred in player this week and immediately repaid his new owners’ faith, with many more set to bring him in ahead of their two double gameweeks on the horizon.
But another player that has gone somewhat under the radar is Manuel Lanzini, who at just 4.9 is another differential option and enabler for the remaining seven matches.
Leicester win 1-0 again
In the first half of the campaign, Leicester City didn’t know how to keep a clean sheet. Their ‘style’ was to outscore their opponents, taking them nine games before they record their first shut-out.
However, the Foxes have now won four 1-0 games in succession, meaning their defensive assets are sky-rocketing in the FPL right now.
And even without a double gameweek on the horizon, it would be wise to keep a Leicester defender (plethora of them to choose from), with clashes against Sunderland and Swansea in their next three. Could they do a Chelsea and grind their way to the title like last year?
