da leao: Leeds United have been linked with Matej Vydra recently (The Mirror, 22/11, page 74), but a recent Q&A session Phil Hay put out those fires as pretty much as soon as they started.
Indeed, the Scottish journalist claimed that a move for the Czech striker is a ‘no-no’ due to the way negotiations went last time Leeds attempted to sign him.

For those who need a little refresher on what happened, the story goes that Leeds were closing in on an £11m move for him, but the club couldn’t agree personal terms with the forward and he ended up joining Burnley.
Of course, no football club like having their fingers burned like that, but surely that shouldn’t be a reason to pass up on an opportunity to sign him this time around.
The attacker won the Championship Golden Boot when he was last in the division, and with Leeds struggling in front of goal this season they could really do with a man of his quality within the squad. At one point Patrick Bamford had gone ten games without finding the back of the net so it’s clear they need a bit of extra help.
Vydra may have proved to be a tough negotiator last time, and it wasn’t nice for the club to be hung out to dry like that, but once he’s signed he’s your player and you don’t have to deal with that again.
Landing him could be a tough task, and getting over whatever hurdle was in place last time may be difficult, but Leeds shouldn’t miss out on a great Championship goalscorer just because it may be hard to negotiate with him.
At the end of the day, promotion could be on the line and if they fail in their pursuit of the Premier League because of a lack of goalscoring quality, they’ll curse their luck knowing Vydra was in their sights.
In other news, Phil Hay has delivered a triple transfer blow for Leeds.
