da bet7: Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has now dropped a significant transfer claim involving Newcastle United.
The Lowdown: Busy month ahead…
da heads bet: The last month of the transfer window promises to be a busy one at St. James’ Park, having already secured the signings of Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett.
They have recently been linked with moves for the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja, so they will certainly be a club to watch as the new season kicks off, with a top level striker sure to be the first priority between now and September 1.
The Latest: Nixon shares insight
Taking to Twitter, Nixon has claimed that the Tynesiders do indeed want to spend more money on signings, but hints that their riches may be inflating the quotes from selling clubs:
“Want to spend… but don’t like the prices.”
The Verdict: Not ideal
Of course, the Magpies will want to bring in more fresh faces before the end of the window, but they should only do so on their terms – Eddie Howe is apparently happy to gamble on Callum Wilson’s fitness up front.
Clubs will know that they have significant money to spend following their takeover last year, and so are likely to add an extra few million onto their players’ price tags when Howe’s team come calling.
That said, the Toon should not be bullied into paying inflated prices, and so should be patient in their approach for their remaining targets, even if it takes until the end of the window to do so.
