da realsbet: Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is considering a late move to sign Newcastle United’s Rolando Aarons on loan, according to The Mirror.
What’s the word?
da bet nacional: After a fine start to his managerial career, Steven Gerrard is eyeing a few final recruits before the transfer window slams shut on Friday and has set his sights on securing a Premier League winger on loan until the end of the season.
The Mirror claims Rangers are eyeing a deal to bring 22-year-old Newcastle United outcast Rolando Aarons to Ibrox, as Gerrard looks to further the depth within his squad ahead of the gruelling campaign that lies in wait.
Aarons spent last year on loan with Serie A side Hellas Verona and has limited first-team opportunities available to him at St. James’ Park due to competition with the likes of Kenedy, Matt Ritchie, Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu ahead of him in the pecking order.
As such, Rafael Benitez is prepared to allow Aarons to leave on a temporary basis once again but Rangers face competition in the market from Hull City and AEK Athens.
Worth a move?
Gerrard’s push for a new winger comes amidst Jamie Murphy’s major injury blow, that will see the 29-year-old Scotland international spend the remainder of the season on the sidelines. However, Rangers are closing in on Osijek’s Eros Grezda as a direct replacement.

It is therefore unclear what sort of role Aarons would have in Gerrard’s side and what he could offer, after making just 11 Serie A appearances with Verona last term and boasting just one senior goal in the league across his entire career.
With Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield, Kyle Lafferty and imminent new signing Grezda as options for a wide role, Aarons’ opportunities at Ibrox would be limited and it may not be worth securing a deal.
