Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has spoken of his excellent start at Eastlands, and has revealed that he has moved to the club to win titles.
The Argentina international has taken to the Premier League instantly, scoring six goals in his first four games, including a hat-trick against Wigan on Saturday.
Roberto Mancini’s outfit now take on Napoli in midweek in their Champions League debut, and the South American striker is keen to follow in the footsteps of his father-in-law Maradona, who lead the Naples club to glory in his playing career.
“Yes, I hope so. I’m coming here to help the team develop and win titles and, if we can do that this year, it will be perfect. But we’ll keep on and on, trying to get better and better and I hope to play a big part in that,” he told The Telegraph.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think Maradona will be able to make the Napoli game on Wednesday because he’s in Dubai training his team [Al Wasl] and the league is starting down there. But if he comes, for sure, he’ll support me and Manchester City because I’m his son-in-law, part of the family, so he’ll support me for sure.”
After the 3-0 victory over Wigan on Saturday, Latics boss Roberto Martinez was quick to compare the Manchester club to European champions Barcelona, but Aguero feels his side have some way to go before being on par with Pep Guardiola’s men.
“Barcelona are a team that have played together for a lot of years in the same style and they have great players. We have a good understanding of the tactical side of things and also what Roberto asks of us. We’re learning together,” he admitted.
City qualified for the Champions League for the first time by finishing third in the Premier League in 2010-11, and despite heightened expectations, Aguero is keeping his feet on the ground.
“We can say we want to win the Champions League because all the teams who enter it want to win it, but for us, it’s important we reach the second stage,” he concluded.
City host Serie A’s third placed team from last term Napoli at Eastlands on Wednesday, who started their domestic campaign on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Cesena.
