da bet vitoria: Former Tottenham and Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton has been speaking to Football Insider about Fraser Forster’s performances while out on loan at Celtic, and has also commented on the giant glovesman’s chances of an England recall.
Forster – who stands at a huge 6 foot 7 – last played for the Three Lions back in May 2016, appearing against Australia.
That particular appearance was the last of his six caps for England, and following a tough time at Southampton after slipping behind both Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy, Forster joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal back in the summer.
What did he say?
Speaking to Football Insider when quizzed on Forster’s chances of an international recall, Hutton said: “I don’t see why not. He’s playing European football, contesting for cups.
“A lot of people look at the SPL and think that it’s not a high level but you still need to play to your best to win games, it doesn’t matter where you are. If he’s playing to the top of his ability, which he’s been brilliant of late, I don’t see why not.
“There’s great competition in the England squad for goalkeepers, there’s so many to choose from, but it’s like anyone – you want to play for your country and he’ll be no different. He’ll be targeting a spot but it will be difficult.”
Hutton is right – there is no reason why he can’t
Forster has every chance of an England recall if he keeps his form up.
He is impressing in Europe, making some vital saves in both of Celtic’s wins against Lazio to fire them into the Europa League knockout phase, while his statistics since returning to Celtic Park are nothing short of excellent.
In his 16 appearances so far this term, the 31-year-old has kept an impressive eight clean sheets, conceding just ten goals.
To compare him to other top-class England keepers, Gareth Southgate’s No.1 Jordan Pickford is having a tough season with Everton, conceding 20 goals in 13 Premier League games and keeping just three clean sheets as the Toffees languish in 16th place.

Of course, there’s also the likes of Dean Henderson and Nick Pope, although they are vastly inexperienced at international level – if Southgate ever wanted someone with experience to compete with or take Pickford’s place, then there is no reason why Forster shouldn’t be handed a recall if he keeps his form up.
